World Plumbing Day 11th March 2025 – A Message from the Master

Industry News

When you read this, I hope you will be wearing blue to bring visibility to the essential work of plumbing professionals.  Every year on 11th March, we celebrate World Plumbing Day, recognising the vital role plumbing plays in daily life – from clean water to public health. The 2025 theme, “Plumbing is More,” highlights its impact on economies, sustainability, and protecting communities. Often overlooked, plumbing is behind many essentials we rely on every day.

The Chair of the World Plumbing Council (WPC), Dave Viola, has written specially to me on behalf of our Company asking us to stand with the Plumbing Industry on this important day and to join in the initiative.  A copy of Dave’s letter is set out below, and of course we will be delighted to welcome Dave, his colleagues from the WPC as well as WPC’s members from all around the Globe to the World Plumbing Conference which the CIPHE will be hosting in Birmingham in June 2026.

Letter to the Master

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the industry that keeps the world flowing!  Please do show your support by wearing blue, snapping a photo, and sharing it on social media with #PlumbingisMore, #WorldPlumbingDay and of course #WCoP.  Don’t forget to tag others and spread the word. Let’s make plumbing visible and celebrate our professionals in this field.

One of my themes for my year as Master is the youth and I am delighted to announce the winners of our Company’s Annual Bursary Competition, sponsored by Monument Tools.  From over 160 applications from plumbing apprentices supported by their colleges and employers the following are our six winners:

  1. Sol from St Helens College
  2. Amy from Lancaster and Morecambe College
  3. Ciah from Tycoch, Gower College Swansea
  4. Harley from Poole College
  5. Daniel from Llandrillo
  6. Oleksandr from Coleg Llandrillo

My congratulations to them all and each will receive £1,000 worth of tools from Monument Tools. I look forward to presenting them with their awards at either our Annual Lecture in London on 12th May or at the National Installers Show at the NEC Birmingham on 26th June.

What we are doing can make a big difference: award winner Amy said: “This really has changed my outlook on my career for the better, it’s been a tough few years being the only girl in my town, but this has reminded me to keep going!”

Whilst on the subject of youth, the heats of the HIP Learner of the Year and the Female Skills Competitions are in full flow, and I look forward to seeing the efforts of all the competitors and to congratulating the winners – the Finals are at the end of March and April respectively.

All these aspiring professionals are the future of our trade and industry, and I wish them every success as they embark on their careers.

Lastly I would like to celebrate the excellence of five plumbers who won awards in the Construction Livery Group Master Certificate Scheme, the Ceremony for which was held in Masion House in the presence of the Lord Mayor on 3rd March: Master Certificates for Donald Barron, Donald Lack, Simon Love and Louchavan Lemard, and the Journeyman Certificate for Oliver Salmon, one of the members of the Plumbers Professional Development Scheme (PPDS) run jointly by the Company and CIPHE. Wishing you all a healthy and safe World Plumbing Day.
