Inter Livery Pancake Race – 4 March 2025

Company News

The sun shone brightly over Guildhall Yard as The Master, Charles Brooks, led The Worshipful Company of Plumbers team in this year’s Inter Livery Pancake Race on 4th March. A fantastic turnout from livery companies across the City ensured a spirited and competitive event.

The Master set the pace, delivering an impressive performance and demonstrating the fine art of flipping pancakes under race conditions. Each competitor had to complete a full circuit of the Guildhall course while maintaining their toque and apron, pausing at each red square to flip their pancake high into the air—no easy task with a traditional cast iron pan in hand!

The Mistress Plumber, Penny Brooks, proved to be a strong contender, while Senior Steward Lvy. Kevin Thomas secured a commendable second place in his heat.

For the Senior Steward it’s a breeze

The Upper Warden, Sandra Raine, embraced the spirit of the event, taking on the challenge alongside notably tall and long-legged competitors, proving that participation was just as important as victory!

A few teams took a rather creative approach, with some competitors opting to tape their toques to their heads—a strategy we chose not to challenge with a steward’s enquiry!

Yes – they really did compete dressed like this

A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all, and we encourage all Liverymen and supporters to join us next year to cheer on Team Plumbers once again.
