Plumbers, Plague, Pestilence & Opportunities

18:00 Wednesday 25th November 2020.

A special lecture for all members presented on-line at 6:00pm on Wednesday 25 November. It will be introduced by the Master and given by Past Master Professor Rodney Cartwright, a specialist in microbiology and infectious diseases.

Prof Rodney Cartwright qualified in medicine and then specialised in microbiology and infectious diseases in the Public Health Laboratory Service.  He developed expertise in water borne diseases becoming an expert adviser to the water industry and the government.  He strongly believes that safe plumbing is an essential requirement for maintenance of public health.  He was able to further this when he was the Independent Chairman of CIPHE.

In his talk he will look back to the start of the Plumbers Company and consider the major infections that have occurred since that time together with steps taken to control them many of which involved “plumbing”.  The application of the lessons learnt will be discussed in dealing with the present coronavirus pandemic.  It will be evident that all plagues and pestilences also provide opportunities to develop a better world.

To attend this free event, simply email the Clerk who will send a Zoom link nearer the date;   clerk@plumberscompany.org.uk

The lecture will last about 45 minutes followed by 30 minutes for questions and discussions and will finish at 7:15pm.  I hope to see you for what promises to be a fascinating Zoom event.
