Inter-Livery News

The Brigantes, the City of London Liverymen in the North, gathered in Sheffield on Friday 13 December for their Annual Christmas Gathering.

Over 200 members, consorts and guests, including 14 Masters and their consorts met in the splendid Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield.

Our own Master, Charles Brooks and His consort, Penny, were amongst the party, with Past Master Nick Gale, who was standing down as Brigantes Vice Chair West, Brigantes member Past Master Paul Nash and his wife Sue, and Immediate Past Master David Adams and his wife Kathy.

The day began with a fascinating talk by guest speaker Paul Iseard on “The History of the Humble Fork”. After the Brigantes AGM we were treated to a delicious supper in Cutlers’ Hall, with great musical entertainment from the Sheffield University Student Choir, before we moved across to Sheffield Cathedral for a lovely festive Carol Service, laid on exclusively for us. Again, we were treated to some superb musical entertainment from the Sheffield Cathedral Choir supported by Ensemble 360, comprising 11 of the finest chamber musicians in the country. Ensemble 360 is the resident group of “Music in the Round”, the leading national producer of chamber music, which has been performing around the country for the last 40 years. The main picture shows the Choir and Ensemble in the Cathedral.

The Brigantes Winter Gathering is open to all Liverymen and next year is planned to be held in Buxton Opera House on 12 December. Look out for details if you would like to come along.
