Plumbers Golf Society – Chairman’s Break

Hosted by PGS Chairman Paul Nash, the two-day event combines competitive golf, fellowship and relaxation in the Berkshire countryside, continuing the Society’s long-standing tradition of bringing together members through golf and convivial company.
The programme commenced on Sunday 10th May with members and guests arriving at the clubhouse for a light lunch before competing in an 18-hole Individual Stableford competition played from the yellow tees.

The attractive par 71 course is not long but has plenty of hills, trees and slopes to challenge the best of golfers. The greens were excellent but confused many of the players on both days with the undulations. Those that coped best and adapted to the challenges on day 1 were Winner Richard Harvey with 36pts and Runner-up Sean Conboy with 32pts.

Following play, members assembled in the hotel bar before enjoying a three-course dinner in the resort hotel, providing an opportunity for both newer and longer-standing members and guests to socialise together away from the pressures of everyday professional life.

The golfing program continued on Monday morning after a hearty breakfast with a light-hearted team Stableford competition using a “best two from three” scoring format. Played over another 18 holes, the event is designed to encourage teamwork, good humour and friendly rivalry before prize presentations over lunch in the clubhouse. The Winners (by some way) were our Chairman Paul Nash, Charles Brooks and Tony Peters with 76 pts. Well played!

Donnington Valley proved an excellent venue for the Chairman’s Away Break, with its combination of a fun golf course, comfortable hotel accommodation, good food, and welcoming hospitality making it an ideal setting for a PGS gathering. Thank you Paul for organising a most enjoyable break.
