New RAF and Army Cadet Affiliations

Charity News Company News

A note from the Immediate Past Master, Paul Nash: For a number of years now the Worshipful Company of Plumbers has had an affiliation with the Richmond Sea Cadets. During my year as Master, I proposed widening the cadet affiliations to include the RAF and the Army Cadets, which the Court has approved. After discussions with the respective Cadet HQs, I am delighted to report that each new cadet unit has been chosen and I have paid my first visits.

Our RAF affiliation is with No 1147 Sqn Air Cadets in Barking, East London. I was delighted to be accompanied by Liveryman Air Cdre Barbara Cooper, who in her last appointment in the RAF, was Commandant Air Cadets no less.

This vibrant Squadron, under the leadership of Plt Off Sulaiman Faisal, who took over approximately a year ago, now has over 60 cadets on its books and is growing from strength to strength.

Our Army cadet affiliation is with 23 (Royal Engineer) Army Cadet Detachment in Islington, very appropriate given our main Army affiliation is with the Royal Engineers Military School of Engineering. Under the very new leadership of SI Felix Samuels, this detachment is also vibrant and growing.

The Plumbers Charity has very kindly agreed to provide up to £1,000 a year to each unit to support the cadets in their activities and projects, and the Company will sponsor an annual award for the best cadet in each unit, chosen by their staff. The Army and Air Cadets will mount a joint Guard of Honour at our Summer Festivals, where the “Best Cadet Award” will be presented.

We look forward to welcoming them at Haberdashers’ Hall on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024 where this year’s Summer Festival is being held, and to growing our affiliations.
