Master’s Message for World Plumbing Day – 11 March 2026
World Plumbing Day 11th March 2026 Masters Message
To mark World Plumbing Day, The Worshipful Company of Plumbers is pleased to share a message from The Master, Sandra Raine, reflecting on this year’s theme, “Plumbing Connects the World.” The message highlights the global impact of the plumbing profession, the Company’s charitable work supporting water projects worldwide, and the important role the UK will play in hosting the World Plumbing Conference later this year.
On 11th March we celebrate the 16th anniversary of World Plumbing Day, which was initiated in 2010 at the World Plumbing Council (WPC) Conference. This year’s theme is ‘Plumbing Connects the World’.
Created to promote the vital link between good quality plumbing, health, environmental sustainability and, increasingly, economic prosperity, the day raises awareness of the importance of plumbing and plumbers worldwide.
The inaugural World Plumbing Day occurred during Past Master Robert Burgon’s year when he was Chairman of the World Plumbing Council. How fitting with the theme that we will be the nation connecting the world as the UK again plays host to the World Plumbing Conference from 23rd to 25th June during the Installers show at the NEC in Birmingham. For the first time ever, ourAnnual Lecture entitled ‘The Future of Water Security’, given by Matthew Griffin, will be held on 24th June at the NEC during the Conference. This reinforces our connection to the industry and ensures delegates connect to the future as we face the challenges of finding solutions to securing access to clean water.
I have been thinking about all the other ways that we can and will be connecting the world. Our joint PPDS venture has further strengthened our plumbing connection with CIPHE. Our fabulous PPDS students have connected villagers in Bokejhunda, Nepal in a very practical way to a water supply, creating a permanent and caring link between us. Other projects our Charity has helped include ‘Village Water’, linking us to Mozambique; ‘Just a drop’ to Nicaragua and ‘Water Aid’ in Rwanda.
These have made powerful and vital connections to water and plumbing for the people impacted. Project ‘Aquaduct’ by ‘Aquabox’ will save countless lives by supplying community filters for clean water across at least 50 other countries where natural and manmade disasters occur, connecting donors forever to people they will likely never meet.
Please take some time to think about the themes for this year which can be found here World Plumbing Day – World Plumbing Council. Why not wear blue for World Plumbing Day, or share a post using #WorldPlumbingDay to spread the good news about what connecting the world through plumbing means. Add a photograph of you or your team in blue or make plumbing visible through a day of volunteering.
I shall be celebrating my connection with plumbing professionals at the presentation of 6 Master’s and 1 Journeyman’s certificates at the Mansion House this week.As we look forward to welcoming the plumbing world to the UK, I wish you a happy World Plumbing Day.
