Join the Master and Mistress, Charles and Penny Brooks, for a fascinating trip to Amberley Museum – a unique open-air site dedicated to preserving the industrial heritage of the South East. This special visit includes an exclusive tour of the Plumbing Museum & Workshop, offering a rare insight into the craftsmanship and skills that have shaped the plumbing trade throughout history. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the Company’s lead casters at work.

Nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, Amberley Museum spans 36 acres and is home to a remarkable collection of exhibits showcasing the evolution of industry, transport, and skilled trades. The Museum features:

  • The Plumbing Museum & Workshop – A dedicated space preserving the history of plumbing, including traditional leadwork, pipe bending, and the development of sanitation.
  • Vintage Transport Collection – Restored buses, narrow-gauge railway engines, and classic vehicles offering a glimpse into transport history.
  • Electricity Hall – Discover the development of power generation, with interactive exhibits on early electrical engineering.
  • Print Workshop & Communication Displays – Explore the history of printing presses, telephony, and radio communications.
  • Historic Buildings & Traditional Trades – Blacksmithing, woodturning, and other heritage crafts demonstrated by skilled artisans.

Itinerary

  • 10:00 – 10:30 AM Arrival, welcome coffee and pastries in the Hayloft
  • 10:30 – 11:30 AM Presentations by the Plumbers Museum Workshop Trust in the Hayloft
  • 11:30 AM & 12:00 PM Guests will be divided into two groups and will swap activities after 30 minutes:
    • Group A: Short Museum Tour
    • Group B: Visit to the Plumbers’ Workshop – hands-on experience of traditional plumbing skills at the Plumbers Museum & Workshop PMWT
  • 12:30 PM Buffet lunch in the Hayloft
  • 2:00 PM Exclusive bus ride for the whole group
  • Afternoon Free time to explore the museum’s exhibits at your leisure
