Inter-Livery Pancake Race at the Guildhall – 4 March 2025
The annual Inter-Livery Pancake Race returns to the Guildhall, London on 4 March 2025, bringing together Livery Companies for a day of lively competition, tradition, and, of course, plenty of pancake flipping. The Worshipful Company of Plumbers will once again take to the racecourse, ready to showcase our agility and precision—qualities just as crucial in plumbing as they are in pancake racing!

Flipping for Glory at the Guildhall
Each year, Livery Companies from across the City gather in the Guildhall Yard for the Inter-Livery Pancake Race, an event that blends history, skill, and a touch of humour. Organised by the Worshipful Company of Poulters, the race challenges participants to don traditional Livery regalia (or themed fancy dress) while sprinting along a relay course, flipping a pancake in a frying pan as they go.
The Plumbers’ Company has a proud history of taking part in this time-honoured tradition, demonstrating the same steadiness of hand and control that have defined our trade for centuries. Swapping soldering irons and pipe wrenches for frying pans, our team will be aiming for a winning performance while embracing the camaraderie that makes the Livery movement so special.
This year’s event will also raise funds for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, ensuring that while we race for fun, we also support vital charitable causes across the City.
The Spirit of the Livery – and a Little Friendly Rivalry
The Worshipful Company of Plumbers has long been known for its dedication to both craftsmanship and fellowship, and this race provides the perfect opportunity to combine the two. While the focus is on fun, we take our pancake flipping as seriously as we take our trade! Over the years, our competitors have braved all manner of weather conditions to take part, and this year will be no different.
Whether competing in the Master’s Race, the Clerk’s Race, or the Fancy Dress Relay, our team will be up against some tough competition from our fellow Livery Companies. But as in all things, the Plumbers’ Company is ready to rise to the challenge—just as we have done for over 650 years.
We encourage members and friends of the Plumbers’ Company to come along and support our team, cheer on the competitors, and enjoy a fantastic morning of tradition, charity, and entertainment.
Stay tuned for updates and photos from the event—we hope to see you there, frying pan in hand!
