Ironmongers' Hall

On Monday, 15 September 2025, 49 Liverymen and guests, including several prospective members of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, gathered for a most convivial lunch at Ironmongers’ Hall, meticulously organised by Past Steward Philippa Stary.

The occasion began with a reception in the drawing room, where members had the opportunity to mingle with other Livery groups attending the Monday Lunch Club, providing a wonderful setting for fellowship and conversation before the main event.

Ironmongers’ Hall, often referred to as the “Country House in the City”, is situated within the Barbican development, near the old Museum of London. Built 100 years ago in Tudor Revival style, the Hall is Grade II listed and continues to serve as a distinguished venue for gatherings, including our bi-annual Plumbers’ Table.

A few weeks before the lunch, attendees selected their choices from a delicious three-course menu, ensuring a meal tailored to their tastes. As expected, the food was of the high standard we have come to appreciate, served in the magnificent surroundings of the banqueting hall.

At the conclusion of the lunch, Master Charles Brooks delivered a brief speech, expressing gratitude to the Hall and staff for their exceptional hospitality, and welcoming several special guests:

  • Stewart Rowles, Master Roofers UK, involved in conservation leadwork training supported by the Plumbers Charity.

  • Noah Young, guest of Past Master Erica Stary, legal professional and construction entrepreneur.

  • Karen Williams, Golden Retriever breeder, recently celebrating her dog Xafier’s full champion title.

  • Alison and Trevor Philips, guests of Upper Warden-elect Janet Rivers, participants in the Dunkirk commemorative crossing.

  • Jack Young, Mueller Europe, representing a company involved in the HIP Skills competition supported by the Company.

The Master also reminded attendees of forthcoming events, including the Installation Service and Lunch at St Magnus the Martyr on 15 October, marking his final official event, and Sandra Raine’s first social event at the House of Lords on 28 October, hosted by Liveryman Lord Kirkhope.

He concluded by thanking Philippa Stary for her expert planning and organisation, and expressed his and the Mistress’s appreciation for the support and encouragement received during his Master’s year.
