Plumbers Golf Society at the Horners’ Trophy – 11 May 2025

Golf Society News

The Plumbers’ Golf Society (PGS) fielded two teams at the prestigious Horners’ Trophy, one of the highlights of the annual Inter-Livery golf calendar, held on 11 May at the magnificent Ashridge Golf Club, Hertfordshire.

The PGS Golfers: L to R – Paul Nash, Tony Goodhead, Tony Peters, Ian Palmer, Richard Harvey, Luke Peters, Mike Samuel, and Jane Palmer

Eighteen Livery Company teams took part in this much-loved competition, played on a course considered by many to be a favourite on the inter-livery circuit. Set in beautiful, wooded countryside within the Ashridge Estate, the course was presented in excellent condition, and the hosts extended their usual warm hospitality.

Following a generous breakfast of bacon rolls, teams headed out for a shotgun start across all 18 tees. The grey skies soon gave way to glorious sunshine, creating perfect conditions for golf. After the round, players gathered in the elegant clubhouse for a superb three-course lunch and the prize-giving ceremony.

The Plumbers’ teams were:

  • Team 1: Paul Nash (PGS Chairman), Richard Harvey, Ian Palmer, and Jane Palmer

  • Team 2: Tony Peters (PGS Treasurer), Luke Peters, Mike Samuel, and Tony Goodhead

The results were as follows:

  • 1st: Tallow Chandlers

  • 2nd: Chartered Accountants (Team 1)

  • 3rd: Information Technologists

Plumbers 1 achieved a strong 6th place, and Plumbers 2 placed 12th – a respectable showing among tough competition. Congratulations also to the Makers of Playing Cards, who took home both nearest-the-pin prizes.

Our warm thanks to the Worshipful Company of Horners for organising another excellent day and to Ashridge Golf Club for their impeccable hospitality.
