Around the Globe

11:15 Thursday 17th September 2026.

You are invited to join the Master and her Consort for the final social event of their year. This is to take place on Thursday 17 September 2026 when we have a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the south bank of the Thames. Although this event is now fully subscribed, please contact the office to be added to the waiting list.

The Globe Theatre
The Globe Theatre

The original Globe was built in 1599 by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, Shakespeare’s own company of actors. It was destroyed by fire only 14 years later and rebuilt on the same site in 1614. It remained open until 1642 when Parliament ordered the closure of all London theatres.

The modern reconstruction, named “Shakespeare’s Globe”, opened in 1997 about 250 yards from the original site.

The day will start with a personal guided tour of this unique building giving us many details about the history of the theatre. We will then enjoy a light buffet lunch, including soft drinks. in a private area of the Globe.

We have also arranged an option after lunch to attend a matinee performance of “Much Ado About Nothing”, a comedy by Shakespeare thought to have been written in 1598/1599. There are two options to see the performance, to stand in the yard, or to sit in the lower gallery. The performance lasts about 2 ½ hours. There are therefore three pricing options per person:

Tour of Shakespeare’s Globe with light buffet lunch only: £45 Tour with lunch and standing ticket to see the performance: £50 Tour with lunch and seat in lower gallery to see the performance: £80* *Cushions for seats are available for an additional £5, payable on the day.
