Air Cadets visit Amberley 29th August 2025

Our Plumbing Museum Workshop Trust generously hosted a visit from our affiliated Air Cadet Sqn, No 1147 Sqn from Barking.

Ten cadets from Barking accompanied by two members of staff travelled to Amberley on a lovely summers day to try their hand at lead casting and welding. Head volunteer Peter Cheesman gave them a full briefing and presentation after which they all got stuck in preparing the moulds and sand impressions before pouring the molten lead to create the casts.

One cadet was asked to cast an RAF crest, which he then welded to a lead planter; the workshop then presented it to the cadets to display at their unit.

After a full morning at the workshop and lunch, the cadets then spent the rest of the day visiting the other attractions at the museum, before returning home. A great and unique experience for them in the Surrey countryside, which they all thoroughly enjoyed.

A huge thank you to Peter and all the volunteer team – Eddie, Alan and Chris – supported by PM Steve Hodkinson, one of the workshop directors, and PM Paul Nash, for their fabulous hospitality.
