A Flippin’ Good Day for The Plumbers – 17 February 2026
Once again, the Plumbers were well represented at the Annual Inter Livery Pancake Race at Guildhall on 17 February by the Master, her Consort Ian, our Clerk Debbie Abergil and Senior Steward David Pearson.
The Master and Clerk had some issues with the sizes of the chef’s toques.

The Master completed her heat in the Master’s Race, without breaking anything, including the obligatory two pancake tosses.

Master – the full toss
The Master’s Consort, Ian, was next in the Liveryman’s Race where, after a little difficulty keeping his toque in place, also completed the course without incident.

Our Clerk, Debbie, a last-minute replacement, adopted the “slow and steady” approach in the Ladies Race, making it to the end in a very respectable time.

We were represented in the Novelty Race, by Senior Steward, David, aka Christopher Plumber, in his inspired “Sound of Music” Bavarian outfit. He not only made it to the finals, but also took second place in the fancy dress competition. He even treated the crowd to a somewhat dubious rendition of one of the songs from the film’s soundtrack “How do you solve a problem like a bidet?” Don’t give up the day job, David!

The racing was followed by lunch in the Guildhall Crypt where we were able reflect on the events and tactics. All in all, a fun day for all concerned while, importantly, supporting the Lady Mayor’s nominated charities.
